'Basketball Wives' takes violent turn with Jennifer Williams incident

Season 3 of VH1’s Basketball Wives has been filled with shocking moments, and last night’s episode was no exception.

At the end of episode 9, a promo clip for next week’s episode was shown. In the clip Eric Williams, Jennifer Williams estranged soon-to-be ex-husband gets angry during a dinner they were having. He proceeds to get up and violently throw a glass of water in her face, and walk away.

Throughout this season Jennifer Williams has been vocal about the emotional toll that her divorce from Eric Williams has taken on her. During a VH1 interview, she talks openly about beginning a personal healing process now that their relationship has ended.

In June 2011 Jennifer reportedly filed papers for divorce in Hudson County Superior Court in New Jersey. In the papers she cites irreconcilable difference and wants alimony, plus half of the couple’s assets.

Many critics have expressed outrage from the negative portrayals of African-American women on VH1’s Basketball Wives. Last month Basketball Wives cast member and executive producer Shaunie O’Neal defended the show, saying she feels the series showcases black women in a positive light.

This is the most recent in a slew of violent altercations shown on Basketball Wives. Just this season cast members Tami Roman and Meeka Claxton had a fight while the show was filming in Italy. Claxton has since filed a lawsuit against Roman, allegedly claiming she “assaulted, battered, beat, threatened, menaced, attacked, jumped on, pushed to the ground, thrashed, punched, and shoved” her.
