Somalia-born rapper and poet K’naan is prompting action in his homeland. U2’s Bono brought K’naan on stage last month in Minnesota and gave him props for his actions with helping in Somala’s drought and famine.
K’naan met with Bono about food relief and the One Campaign — assisting Somalia.
According to K’naan, he wish he didn’t have to respond to this devastating situation.
“For me I would prefer to just be making my music,” K’naan said. “But I am Somali and I have a deep connection to my people and my roots, and I have an understanding of what is at stake.”
K’naan said Americans look at Somalia’s problems as something that is an inherited quality to African failure. However, he said we are losing a poetic, artistic group of people.
