Buchanan’s interpretation of Cain’s inciting statement is that “blacks bought a lot of propaganda on the liberal plantation.”

He contends that African Americans have embraced “great society liberalism” to their detriment and doing so has contributed to high numbers of black kids born out of wedlock and low high school graduation rates. Buchanan went on to say that he applauds the accomplishments of Cain because he went against the grain by succeeding as a tough black businessman in the face of adversity in a tough world.
