Sex offender caught giving piano lessons to kids

A registered sex offender, who had for years been giving piano lessons to children in metro Atlanta, has been jailed for violating his probation.

Robert Henry Green, 55, a well-known and respected music teacher in DeKalb County, was caught out after a mother’s intuition prompted her to re-examine his past.

Rina Buckner was introduced to Green through a friend and decided to hire him to give her daughter private piano lessons. She became suspicious, though, when he took a “strange” interest in Chemani Baxter, which included offers of taking the girl on unsupervised day trips to Athens.

“You can’t really trust anyone. You need to see who’s really around your children,” Buckner told WSB-TV Channel 2.

Fifteen-year-old Baxter also said she felt uncomfortable when Green sent her text messages “at inappropriate hours.” In one text he wrote, “In am in Athens now. I wish you were here.”

Buckner decided to do some research and what she discovered will live with her for the rest of her life: Green was on sex offender registry.

“I said let me look him up because I need to investigate and see who this guy really is,” Buckner said.

That’s when she discovered Green’s name on the NY sex offender registry, and “my jaw hit the floor,” she said.

Green was serving five years’ probation after pleading guilty in 2009 to child molestation, aggravated sexual battery and giving alcohol to a minor, the report said
Buckner immediately alerted police.

Now Green is in the Dekalb County Jail charged with violating his probation, which prohibits contact with minors.

Green had been telling authorities he was teaching music to senior citizens and not to children, said Buckner.
