An unusual phenomenon occurs in Birmingham, Friday morning, December 16, 2011. The sky looks like the dream of conquering the waves, a series of large waves breaking the horizon Birmingham, Alabama.
The tops of clouds moving slowly. Alabama residents who gasped, then took the unusual phenomenon that photo. Some of them send the images to the local meteorological agency, with a similar question: “What about the tsunami in the sky?”
The experts then provide feedback. That the cloud is an example of ‘Kelvin-Helmholtz waves’. Both in the sky or ocean, turbulence type was formed when two fluids with different densities or flow rate from each other. In the case of ocean waves, the water is solid against the mild air. When they are flowing, small ripples can be amplified into large waves favored by surfers.
In the case of the solar atmosphere, which is composed of very hot gases and electrically charged called plasma , both the flow coming from the plasma ejected from the surface of the sun as it’s passed by a plasma that is not thrown. The difference in speed and density of the flow along this border led to instability that accumulate into a wave.
