First lady Michelle Obama makes 'appearance' on Clemson sideline

Michelle Obama may be one of the most recognizable figures in the world but that didn’t stop ESPN analyst and former NFL coach, Jon Gruden from confusing her with an ESPN sideline reporter Wednesday.

Gruden was in the middle of explaining Clemson’s elaborate play-calling system when he made the gaffe.

In the system, the coaching staff holds up a series of pictures that translate into a play.

During the Clemson and West Virginia Orange Bowl game, one of the photos held up by Clemson’s offensive coaches was of Michelle Obama from the president’s inauguration.

“There’s Lisa Salters,” Gruden began saying until being corrected by his co-announcers.
