According to NBC News, Whitney Houston’s family says there will be no public funeral, and certainly no funeral in Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center. The family says they’ve “shared Whitney with the world for 27 years,” and now, they want to grieve in private.
According to NBC, funeral services for Houston, who died Saturday at the age of 48, will be held at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark. The service will be by invitation only, per the family, and there will be no public events, and no media allowed inside the church.
The news apparently came from funeral Director Carolyn Whigham.
