Azealia Banks lashes out on twitter against Iggy Azalea over XXL Freshman cover

Azealia Banks recently took to Twitter to express her confusion over Australian MC Iggy Azalea making it to the cover of XXL’s ‘Freshman’ issue. “How can you endorse a white woman who called herself a ‘runaway slave master?’” Banks is referring to Azalea’s “D.R.U.G.S” track in which she says, “I’m a runaway slave….master.” Azalea just signed to Interscope records, and she is the first female rapper to appear on a Freshman cover. Hiphopwired reports on the story:

It hasn’t even been a full 24 hours since XXL Magazine released their 5th annual Freshman 2012 cover, and the backlash has already begun. While the Twitterverse has been littered with angry responses and inquiries as to why specific rappers were left off the magazine’s roll call, rapper Azealia Banks is wondering how Iggy Azalea made it on the list.

Banks has amassed a reputation for not only speaking her mind, but not being so friendly when it comes to fellow female MCs. So it’s no surprise that she didn’t hold her tongue in regards to XXL’s decision to choose Azalea as the first female rapper to make the coveted cover. “Iggy Azalea on the XXL freshman list is all wrong,” she wrote on Twitter.
