Pam Grier reportedly wants Halle Berry to play her in biopic

One of black Hollywood’s most celebrated female action stars is finally getting her due. Pam Grier’s autobiography Foxy: My Life in Three Acts is being adapted into a biopic for the big screen. The rights to the film have reportedly been optioned by Imprint Entertainment, and TV producer/screenwriter Eunetta Boone has been tapped to adapt the book into a screenplay.

According to Michael Becker of Imprint Entertainment, “Foxy succeeds at a stark impression of Grier’s courage and inner strength without the use of rose-colored glasses. Imprint Entertainment looks forward to bringing this triumphant story to life.”

Grier is well known as a leading lady in the 1970’s Blaxploitation era in film, taking on bold, assertive characters, who were champions for female empowerment. She stunned moviegoers with her beauty and sass in films from the 70’s like Coffy, Foxy Brown, and more recently in 1997, with Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown. The Pulp Fiction director says “Pam Grier might have been the first female action star.”

Grier reportedly wants Halle Berry to play her in the film. The Academy Award winning actress was mentioned last year as a front-runner to play Aretha Franklin her biopic, which is said to have been put on hold, however Berry declined the role because she can’t sing and feels she wouldn’t be able to do Franklin’s story justice.

There has been no word yet from the Monster’s Ball actress as to whether or not she will take on the role of Grier.
