MIAMI (AP) — Florida International’s Dominique Ferguson says he has decided to enter the NBA draft after several attempts at being allowed to transfer were blocked by the school.
Ferguson says he submitted the paperwork on Tuesday. Early entry candidates have until Sunday to make themselves eligible for the June 28 draft.
Ferguson wanted to transfer after FIU fired basketball coach Isiah Thomas earlier this month, only to have his requests for a release from his scholarship denied. In two seasons at FIU, the 6-foot-9, 210-pound forward averaged 8.0 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Panthers.
Several FIU players say they are considering transfers because of Thomas’ firing. FIU hired former Louisville associate head coach Richard Pitino to replace Thomas last week.
The school had no immediate response to a request for comment.
