To celebrate the company’s 10th anniversary, Perennial, a Washington, D.C.-based family of businesses, under direction of national business leader and advocate Lamell McMorris, is launching a youth competition to encourage students to launch their own business ideas.
McMorris said, “As an entrepreneur, I’m pleased to encourage young people to think big and act on their ideas, and with the 2012 Perennial Youth Business Competition, I hope to give ten D.C. youth a chance to do just that.”
The 2012 Perennial Youth Entrepreneurship Competition is open to all D.C. residents who are in high school or a high school equivalency program. The competition rewards the top ten students with the best business ideas with $1,000 to take their idea and make it a reality.

What started 10 years ago as a small government firm with only a Rolodex, a high school intern, and a lot of determination has today evolved into Perennial Strategy Group. Today, the government relations firm is thriving as it focuses on sports, entertainment and media, as a full service operation that manages some of the nation’s top athletes. Driven by its founder and CEO Lamell McMorris’s own spirits of innovation and entrepreneurship, the visionary has launched his own youth competition.
Applications for the competition are due by 11:59 pm, May 11, 2012 and by late May, twenty applicants will be chosen to compete in a semifinal round. The twenty applicants will have six minutes to give their ‘elevator pitch’ to a panel of judges from varying industries. In early June, the final ten winners will be selected. Teams are also encouraged to apply, and ideas of all types are welcome. Winners and/or winning teams will be awarded at a banquet held in late June 2012.
Perennial represents names you may know in the NBA, such as Josh Smith of the Atlanta Hawks and Derrick Favors of the Utah Jazz, as well as recognizable NFL players, such as Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers and Kris Jenkins of the New York Jets.
