Rihanna talks about debut acting role in 'Battleship' and new TV show (VIDEO)

Rihanna is taking her talents to the big screen with her debut acting role in Universal’s Battleship. The Barbadian-born beauty stars as the no-nonsense Navy Petty Officer Cora Raikes, in this film about naval battleships forced to fight against aliens invading Earth.

NBC New’s Mara Schiavocampo caught up with the pop star in Honolulu, Hawaii to talk about her new film role and the intense training that she endured in order to take on the character of ‘Raikes.’

“I did more push-ups than anything in my life for this movie,” Rihanna said. “I had to get my upper body a little strong because I was holding a lot of weapons.”

The “Talk That Talk” singer also revealed some of the future projects she is working on.

“I’m executive producing a TV show, [and] a fashion show in the U.K. which is a whole new hat for me. I’m getting into designing more, doing more movies this year and music of course.”

Battleship hits theaters nationwide today.
