NBC Chicago – One man was shot in the head and another in the back Monday night, the latest incidents in a violent holiday weekend in Chicago.
Police said a group was standing in the 1700 block of East 68th Street around 10 p.m. in the city’s South Shore neighborhood when someone fired shots. One man was shot in the head and died, and another was struck in the back and transported to a local hospital.
In total, 10 people died over the weekend and 41 were hurt in shootings since Friday night across Chicago.
On Tuesday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Supt. Garry McCarthy will outline new strategies to reduce crime. According to the mayor’s office, they will announce “coordinated gang-reduction and neighborhood safety strategies.”
Emanuel hasn’t been shy in speaking out about city violence.
Last month when statistics showed Chicago Police had recorded a 60 percent spike in murders during the first three months of 2012, he told the media a culture change needs to be made.
