President Obama’s aides outlined their campaign strategy to New York magazine this week, and it won’t be the hope and change of 2008.
“We’re gonna say, ‘let’s be clear what he (Romney) would do as president,” top Obama aide David Plouffe told the magazine. “Potentially abortion will be criminalized. Women will be denied contraceptive services. He’s far right on immigration. He supports efforts to amend the Constitution to ban gay marriage.”
Another aide noted they would say of Romney, “he’s the fifties, he is retro, he is backward, and we are forward.”
New York dubbed the change a shift from “hope” to “fear.”
In the piece and publicly, Obama aides have expressed confidence in winning in part because Romney would have to capture so many states that Obama won last time. The president could lose Virginia, North Carolina, and Ohio and still win reelection.
