UK folk star Lianna La Havas makes impression stateside

Lianne La Havas, a young up-and-coming soul/jazz/folk musician from the UK, performed last night at The Darby in the Chelsea section of New York City. A few strums of her guitar and the audience was silenced, eagerly awaiting what was to come. La Havas did not disappoint.

Clearly influenced by artists like Jill Scott, La Havas performed a cover of Scott’s “He Loves Me.”  Her voice has the strength of both Scott and Adele, with the rock, folk edge of Alanis Morrisette. Music has played a major role in her life ever since she was a child and she is clearly comfortable on stage. La Havas can play the guitar as well as the piano and is currently teaching herself the ukulele.

She also performed her own songs such as “Age, Forget”, and the title songIs Your Love Big Enough?” from her new album set to be releases in the U.S. this August.

After her performance, La Havas further wowed the audience with the warmth of her personality. She hugged and kissed every person that introduced themselves. She is definitely an artist to keep an eye out for. She is set to open for Erykah Badu at Hammersmith Apollo for Bluefest 2012 and is more than excited, calling it a dream come true.
