Daunte Culpepper says his playing days are officially done

Three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Daunte Culpepper says his playing days are done. The 35-year-old made the comments to Orlando Sentinel correspondent Craig Castille Saturday. Culpepper  passed for a league-leading 4717 yards in 2004, which many consider the prime of his 11-year NFL career, mostly with the Minnesota Vikings. The Orlando Sentinel reports:

“As far as me playing, I think I am done,” said Culpepper, 35. “That part of my book is closed. The next chapter is, I have kids and I will be coaching them.

“I will be part of athletics and a part of sports, hopefully my whole life. It makes me feel good. I love to compete. Now I’ll be competing in men’s leagues, in basketball and softball and stuff.”

Culpepper spent seven seasons with the Minnesota Vikings before he was traded to the Miami Dolphins. After one season with the Dolphins, he played one season in Oakland and two in Detroit.

He last played pro football for the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the UFL in 2010.
