The University of Southern California is known for its tremendous athletics program. They have produced some of the nation’s best athletes and Olympians. Out of every university in America, USC has sent the most Olympians, and has won the most medals. In fact, a USC athlete has won a medal at every Summer Olympics since 1904.
The long tradition started with Emil Breitkreutz, who won the bronze in the 800-meter run at the 1904 St. Louis Games. Among the esteemed alum are: Charlie Dumas, who in 1956 was the first person to ever jump over seven feet and took home the gold medal in the high jump; Lisa Leslie, professional basketball player, has taken home the gold for Team USA four times (1996, 2000, 2004, 2008); and Inger Miller, who won the gold in 1996 for the 4x100m relay.
With 39 USC athletes on this year’s Team USA, they have a good chance at keeping the record going in London.
