It is only fitting that Gabby Douglas, the 2012 Olympic women’s gymnastics all-around gold medalist, will be appearing on the cover of the Corn Flakes cereal box.
On a long road to the Olympics Gabby Douglass proved to be the most essential asset to the U.S. women’s gymnastic team. Nicknamed the “Flying Squirrel”, Douglas was not the American favorite to win the individual all-around competition. Teammate Jordyn Wieber was widely regarded as the team’s best shot at an all-around gold medal, but she fell short in the qualifying rounds, while Douglas and Aly Raisman moved on to the finals.
After the U.S. won the women’s gymnastics team gold, Douglas was set to compete for the individual all-around gold. Douglas had the opportunity to prove just how great she is, and she delivered. She won the individual all-around competition over, becoming the most famous African-American gymnast since Dominique Dawes in 1996.
We wish nothing but the best to Golden Gabby, American gymnastic sensation.
