A Baltimore firefighter is being of accused of running a prostitution ring out of his apartment, according to The Baltimore Sun.
Police say Jamar Simmons was living a double life until last month. The 29-year-old’s apartment was raided by officers on July 9th and he, along with an alleged accomplice, were arrested.
According to court records, police found a stage with floor-to-ceiling poles, a bar with a DJ booth, two bedrooms, a kitchen and six lockers labeled with women’s nicknames.
Not long after his arrest, Simmons was suspended from the fire department without pay, The Baltimore Sun reports.
During the raid police also found a chalkboard with reminders written on them for the women. Some of the messages included: do not mention sex for money on the phone, always search clients for police wires, and promote the location of the third-story, loft-style apartment as being just 10 minutes from downtown.
Simmons faces 11 charges, 8 of which are related to operating a prostitution business. His alleged accomplice, 33-year-old Franklin Coit, faces similar charges as well as gun charges.
The two men managed the sex ring, advertised services on websites affiliated with prostitution, and took a large amount of the money the women made when they had sex with clients.
This is not the first time that Simmons has been arrested on prostitution-related charges. In 2010 both he and Coit were taken into custody after dropping off a woman a hotel for an arranged sexual encounter with an undercover officer.
The Fire Department is to carry out an internal investigation concerning Simmons’ conduct
