The premise of I Hate L.A. Dudes will center “on an aspiring journalist, new to Los Angeles, who becomes the lone female voice on a budding, male-driven Internet talk show, while learning to decode the often humiliating and exasperating rules of the L.A. dating scene.”
Deadline broke the news on Monday that Sholaland, the production company headed by Shonda Rhimes, the African-American producer behind hits like Grey Anatomy, Private Practice and Scandal, which have established its brand in drama, have been looking to expand into the comedy, and sold the new comedy to ABC.
And according to the Washington Post, Rae said one of her biggest issues about black characters on mainstream television and film had been that “I don’t see me.” But, she says, the deal with ABC shows that “there are still opportunities for awkward black girls.”
