Cam Newton is ready to break into the fashion world.
According to WWD.com, the second-year Carolina Panthers quarterback will launch a signature line of “fashion-forward, versatile, professional apparel options for men” at Belk department stores by fall 2013. Newton’s struggled so far this season (his team is 1-4) and some have questioned the timing of his announcement. The Charlotte Business Journal reports:
Unlike his career-worst passing performance for the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in a loss against Seattle, Newton won over the crowd in the atrium of the department store chain’s headquarters. Strobe lights, male models, dancers and thumping music on a freshly built stage served as the backdrop for Newton’s short but well-received Q&A session. John Thomas, Belk executive vice president of private brands, interviewed the quarterback about his fashion sense and the collaboration with Belk.
The collection of men’s casual clothing, known as MADE, resulted from conversations last summer between the retailer and Newton. He said the company “did an unbelievable job taking my ideas and taking my style and just making it a brand.”
