Leona Lewis says Rihanna's 'We Found Love' was meant for her

Leona Lewis is currently promoting her new album, Glassheart, which is due out tomorrow. During a recent interview, the British pop star revealed that Rihanna’s hit song “We Found Love” was originally meant for her.

Lewis recorded the track, which was written and produced by Calvin Harris, for her upcoming album Echo, but the song was later given to Rihanna after Lewis decided to release “Trouble” as her lead single.

“I didn’t commit to it because I wanted ‘Trouble’ to be my first single so I think that was another reason they went with Rihanna. It was the same version and production but mine’s better,” Lewis said during an interview with The Daily Star.

Rihanna’s version of “We Found Love” became a chart-topping hit in 25 countries and is one of the biggest selling singles of all time, selling a whopping 6.5million copies, however the “Bleeding Love” singer revealed that if her version of the song had been released, it probably wouldn’t have sold as well as Rihanna’s.

“It was a bit annoying to see how big a hit it was around the world but if I’d released it maybe it wouldn’t have done as well.”

Lewis still has her recording of the track but will never allow it to be released. “I still have the recording but I’d never leak it. That’s so unprofessional.”

“There are so many songs I’ve recorded, only to hear other people singing them,” Lewis said. “It happens all the time.”
