Homeless man cashes in on $200,000 lottery prize

A homeless Greenville, South Carolina man plans to buy a new home after winning a $200,000 state lottery last week, the New York Daily News reported.

“I’m getting my own place,” he told the South Carolina Education Lottery. “This will put me where I need to be.”

The man, who did not wish to be identified, said he used to work construction jobs, but he’s been living at a rescue mission ever since he fell on hard times.

He bought a $10 scratch ticket from a local liquor store and when he saw he’d won, the man said he jumped, screamed and smiled. His brother drove him to Columbia the next day to pick up his prize.

The man said he plans to use the money to take care of himself and his family.

According to the lottery’s website, he beat the odds of 1 in 440,000 to win the money.
