Legendary filmmaker Tim Burton has revealed that he had pitched the idea to do a musical version of House of Wax, and wanted to cast late pop legend Michael Jackson.
Well known for his unconventional style of movie-making that usually mixes dark themes and thrilling special effects, Burton told Yahoo! U.K. that he had pitched the idea to do a re-make of the 1953 classic horror flick.
Saying that it was possibly his favorite idea that never got picked up, he said the project was shut down in the early stages.
“It was many years ago but that’s the one that springs to mind. They [the studio] did not go for that one at all,” said Burton
Michael Jackson only appeared in one major movie role in this career, as the Scarecrow in 1978’s The Wiz. But he often spoke of a desire to do more big screen projects.
While he was not able to realize this dream during his lifetime, This Is It, a backstage documentary about Jackson, became a surprise hit in 2009. And this week only a Spike Lee documentary about the making of Jackson’s Bad album is in theaters.
