After finally receiving his high school diploma earlier this month, Drake celebrated by delivering a graduation speech to students at Toronto’s Jarvis Collegiate Institute on Friday.

“It’s not necessarily about the books that you’ll read or the science or math equations that you’ll do, because you may end up taking a path in life where a lot of the things that you’ll learn you can’t necessarily fully apply,” Drake said to students in a video of the speech. “What this is about today, for all of you, is about the art of following through.”

The 25-year-old YMCMB rapper dropped out of high school to take on the role of Jimmy Brooks in the Canadian drama Degrassi: The Next Generation. When he finally completed his diploma requirements, he tweeted, “97% on my final exam. 88% in the course. One of the greatest feelings in my entire life. As of tonight I have graduated high school…Thank you to my teacher Kim Janzen for spending the last 5 months working tirelessly with me!”

Drake ended the speech with a mention of his mother: “This piece of paper I’d like to dedicate to my mother because she’s a retired teacher and always wanted me to graduate.”
