There is a new “Queen of Daytime Talk” and she is about to take her throne.
Queen Latifah has landed her own syndicated talk show. According to Deadline.com, The Queen Latifah Show has been sold to 16 of CBS’ Owned & Operated stations and will launch in the fall of 2013.
The show is said to feature “celebrity interviews, human interest stories, comedy, pop culture and musical performances. It is expected to showcase Queen Latifah’s talents, blending comedy and music into her hosting duties.”
The deal with CBS comes a year after Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment and Will and Jada Smith’s Overbook Entertainment closed a deal to develop a talk show for the Oscar-nominated actress to host.
The Queen Latifah Show will join the already crowded landscape of daytime talk shows which are expected to return in the fall of 2013 including Katie Couric’s talk show, Katie, the Steve Harvey Show, the new Ricki Lake Show, Ricki, and The Jeff Probst Show.
Warner Brothers studios announced this week that Anderson Cooper’s daytime talk show, Anderson, will not be returning for a third season, citing disappointing ratings.
This will not be Latifah’s first time attempting to host a daytime talk show. In 1999, the Set It Off star hosted her own syndicated talk show, also called The Queen Latifah Show, which aired for only two seasons. Some of her most memorable celebrity guests included Destiny’s Child, Whoopi Goldberg, Vivica A. Fox, Denzel Washington, and Brook Shields.

Now more than a decade later, and without the competition of talk show ratings giants like The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Montel Williams Show, will a second attempt at launching The Queen Latifah Show be a success?
