Lil Jojo’s mother blames rapper Chief Keef for her son’s murder

Robin Russell, the mother of slain Chicago up-and-coming rapper Lil JoJo, blames rapper Chief Keef for her son’s murder.

Russell appeared on BET’s Don’t Sleep with T.J. Holmes where she made these allegations. Russell does not believe rising rap star Chief Keef pulled the trigger, but she does believe that he hired a hitman to kill her son and she now fears for her own life.

Chicago police are currently investigating whether retaliation for the Septermber 4 murder of Lil JoJo, whose real name is Joseph Coleman, played a role in a number of deaths still under investigation by police.

Rapper Lil JoJo had begun a back and forth ordeal with rapper Chief Keef, whose real name is Keith Cozart, who is signed to Interscope Records, earlier this year. JoJo taunted Keef and fellow rappers Lil Durk and Lil Reese, in a diss track on YouTube.

In a separate video JoJo can be heard antagonizing a Keef associate, who clearly responds, “I’m a kill you!”

The conflict between the two spilled over onto Twitter where threats were exchanged. This lead to JoJo tweeting his location. He was murdered just hours later.

Both Lil JoJo and Chief Keef are allegedly in rival gangs, according to The Voice. Russell said she had no idea her son was involved in gang activity at all.

When asked by Holmes if she felt powerless to protect her other children from similar fate, Russell admitted that she did. “All I can I do is raise my child, I can’t hold his hand 24-7 when he goes in the streets,” Russell said. “I teach them right from wrong, but I have other kids, I can’t hold his hand 24-7.”

JoJo’s brother John said he learned to address individuals he may have problems with in the future instead of entire groups as his brother did in the track that lead to his death, “3 Hunna K.”

Russell claims she was not aware of her son’s gang affiliation, but she supported her son’s music and his dreams of becoming a rapper.
