It was an amazing ride for 16-year-old Gabby Douglas in 2012.
She became the first African-American gymnast to win the individual all-around gold medal at the London Olympics. Her high-flying and high energy performances also helped her team earn a gold medal.
Tuesday, she added another accomplishment to her list: author.
Grace, Gold & Glory: My Leap of Faith details Douglas’ journey from a young six-year-old gymnast training in Virginia Beach to her gold medal triumph ten years later in London.
At a book signing in New York, she told theGrio’s Todd Johnson the entire process of writing was “exciting” because she knows everything is “in her own words” and “true.”
“I’ve always wanted to write a book, just knowing I went through a lot of sacrifices and difficulties,” Douglas said. “This is about sharing my life story with everyone.”
