On Meet the Press this week, Professor Michael Eric Dyson sparred with former Education Secretary Bill Bennett and conservative columnist David Brooks over whether, in the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre, the nation’s focus should be on guns, violent video games, or sensible regulation of guns.
Dyson said all of the societal issues need to address, adding that “I don’t think that anyone at this table would defend the ability of anybody to repeatedly shoot a child. We’ve got to talk about sensible gun laws,” including banning high capacity magazines and assault weapons, but also allowing people greater access to psychological help.
He added that President Obama should use his “bully pulpit” to push for these changes.
