Tyler Perry scores multiple nominations for worst movie ‘Razzies’

Tyler Perry’s rough year at the movies just get worse. Following the underwhelming performance of Madea’s Witness Protection and the outright failure of his first foray into action, Alex Cross, the media mogul has been nominated for several ‘Razzies,’ the comic award given out annually for the year’s worst films.

Madea’s Witness Protection was nominated in five different categories:

Worst actress: Tyler Perry (in drag)
Worst screen couple: Tyler Perry & His Drag Get-Up
Worst director: Tyler Perry
Worst screen ensemble
Worst remake, rip-off or sequel
To add insult to injury, Tyler Perry was also included alongside fellow black actor Eddie Murphy (for A Thousand Words) in the worst actor category for his part in the thriller Alex Cross.

For 32 years, the Razzies have been a hilarious anecdote of the highbrow award season fare. In the past some actors have even been good enough sports to accept their ‘worst actress’ or ‘worst actor’ trophies in person. For instance, Bill Cosby collected his in 1988 for the notorious flop Leonard Part 6, and Halle Berry spoofed her infamous, tearful Oscar speech after winning a Razzie for her widely-mocked role in 2004’s Catwoman.

Who knows if Perry will actually show up at the Razzie Awards, but he can take heart that his films didn’t ring up the most “worst” nominations. That dubious honor goes to the final film in the Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn Part 2, which took home a whopping 11 nominations.
