Quvenzhané Wallis, the 9-year-old Academy Award nominated star of Beasts of the Southern Wild, is being considered for the lead role in an upcoming remake of the classic musical Annie, according the Entertainment Weekly.
The pint-size actress is reveling in the spotlight. She recently appeared on NBC’s Rock Center, where she boasted that she is a “triple threat.”
The reboot of Annie has been long rumored, with 12-year-old pop singer Willow Smith previously attached the lead role.
However, Willow’s father, actor Will Smith confirmed that she is no longer interested during a recent appearance at Temple University.
“Willow was supposed to be doing Annie, we got Jay-Z to do the movie, go the studio to come in and Willow had such a difficult time on tour with ‘Whip my Hair’ and she said, ‘You know Daddy,’ I don’t think so,” said the former Fresh Prince, adding that his daughter also said, “I have a better idea, how about I just be 12.”
Will Gluck, the director of Easy A, is currently on board to direct and Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment and Jay-Z’s Marcy Media have been developing the project.
Wallis made history this year when she became the youngest performer ever nominated in the best actress category.
