New Orleans rapper Awood “Mr. Magic” Johnson and his wife of 13 years, Chastity Johnson, were killed in a fatal car accident Friday in Mississippi.
The former No Limit Records artist had a successful debut album, Sky’s the Limit, in 1998, which reached number 3 on the hip-hop/R&B albums chart, according to the Times-Picayune.
Johnson’s most recent success was with the group Body Head Bangerz in 2004, and their single “I Smoke, I Drank.”
Several industry professionals tweeted condolences to Mr. Magic and his family over the weekend.

Johnson was scheduled to perform this past weekend with rapper Mia X. “I looked forward to performing and laughing wit you on Friday but God chose you to be with him,” Mia X wrote on her Instagram account. “Chasity was the LOVE of your life so God decided that she should join you. I know yall are in a better place but all of us who loved yall are shocked and hurt.”
