Should Jesse L. Martin play Marvin Gaye in biopic?

Should Law & Order star Jesse L. Martin play Marvin Gaye in the upcoming biopic Sexual Healing?

The big-screen movie, set to be directed by British filmmaker Julian Temple, will focus on Gaye’s struggles with financial difficulties and alcoholism in Europe during the early 1980s.

Rock star Lenny Kravitz was cast to play Gaye in November , but it has been reported that Martin will be replacing him in the lead role of the Motown legend.

Gaye’s son, Marvin Gaye III, came forward shortly after the casting of Kravitz to express his displeasure with the project, and according to Deadline.com, asked Kravitz to drop out.

“The producers and directors of this film are very wrong,” the late singer’s son said last December.  “They don’t even know the whole story.”

Both Kravitz and Martin are experienced singers.  Kravitz first rose to fame in the 90s with his Grammy-Award-winning music career, and Martin starred in the 2005 film version of the award-winning Broadway musical Rent.

Which actor/singer do you think be able to best recreate the late legendary singer?
