Google celebrates the late Ella Fitzgerald's birthday with doodle

Today Google is commemorating the “The First Lady of Song,” Ella Fitzgerald’s birthday with a Google Doodle on its search screen.

The late singer died on June 17, 1996 at the age of 79.  Fitzgerald would have turned 96 years old today.

The Google Doodle shows Fitzgerald on stage with a jazz band in the background.

The jazz icon won 13 Grammy awards and recorded more than 200 albums.

Throughout her career, Fitzgerald worked with fellow jazz greats such as Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Frank Sinatra.

Fitzgerald performed her last concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 1991.

It was her 26th time performing there.
