Kelly Rowland broke down in tears after a recent emotional performance of her latest song, “Dirty Laundry.”
The singer, who kicked off her summer tour in Washington D.C., sat center stage as she belted out the lyrics to the track. The song expresses her former feelings of envy towards her childhood friend Beyoncé Knowles and admits that she was once involved in a physically abusive relationship. She sings:
When my sister on stage/killing it like a motherf**ker/I was in a rage/feeling it like a motherf**ker.
“Went our separate ways but I was happy she was killin’ it/Bittersweet she was up, I was down/No lie, I feel good for her but what do I do now?”
As the song neared its end, Kelly became overwhelmed with emotion and broke down onstage. She hung her head low only to reveal the tears she failed to wipe away. A few moments of silence followed but fans continued to cheer her on.
After regathering, she continued to sing to the crowd and completed her performance.
When the track ended, some more tears fall as Kelly took a few moments to address her fans. She expressed her appreciation for the support her former band mates, Michelle Williams and Beyoncé, have shown over the years and said, “I am so grateful to God that I have my girls to back me up.”
The song is featured on her new album, Talk a Good Game, which will be released on June 18th.
