New Orleans, LA — Two memorial services will honor the life of school teacher Terrilynn Monette. The first will be held in her hometown, and the second in New Orleans.
The first service will be held in Long Beach, California on Saturday, June 22 at Monette’s alma matter, Wilson Classical High School. A second New Orleans service will be held in July, but no details have been released as of yet.
Monette moved from California to Louisiana to work for the “teachNOLA” program, which sends educators to teach in impoverished areas of New Orleans. She went missing on March 2, 2013 after she went out to celebrate her recent nomination for “Teacher of the Year” in her district.
A volunteer diver with the Slidell Police Department located Monette’s car in Bayou St. John on Saturday, June 8. Monette’s body was inside the vehicle. An autopsy lists the official cause of death as drowning.
The family has not released a statement since her body was located. However, statements on their behalf were released on a Facebook page devoted to the search effort.
