Kids react to controversial Cheerios commercial

A video featuring children reacting to the now infamous mixed-race Cheerios commercial was published to YouTube Sunday.

The video features 12 children from the ages of 7 to 13, expressing their thoughts on the commercial itself and their thoughts about the backlash it received.

The kids were first shown the commercial, which features a white mother, black father and their mixed-race daughter.

When asked what they thought of the family, responses from the children included: “They seemed fun,” “funny” and “they seem like a normal family.”

The kids were told that “a lot of people have gotten very angry about this commercial,” they all questioned, “why?”

They were then told that people became angry because of the parents and asked if they could tell why someone would be angry.  None of the children shown could tell.

Once they were told people were mad that the parents were different races, the kids sounded off.

“I don’t think that that is fair,”11-year-old Marlhy responded.

“When was this video made the 1950s?” questioned 11-year-old Elle. “That’s so stupid.”

“It’s just the color of their skin. What matters is if they’re nice or mean,” said seven-year-old Samirah.

The YouTube video continues to get kids’ reactions on what they think of the negative commentators.

“What is this country for?” Dylan, 11, questioned sarcastically. “Something it starts with an E. Oh, equality! Okay, so why do you do that?”

The Fine Bros production was been viewed over 1.2 million times since it was posted.
