Marvin Gaye’s son slams Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ lawsuit

The legal war over Robin Thicke’s chart-topping song “Blurred Lines” is heating up.

Last week Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams and T.I. filed a federal lawsuit in a California court against Marvin Gaye’s family and Bridgeport Music. In Thicke’s lawsuit, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the singer claims the Gaye family is alleging “Blurred Lines” and Gaye’s single “Got to Give it Up” sound and feel the same.

Yesterday, Marvin Gaye’s son, Marvin Gaye III, told TMZ Live he resents Thicke’s lawsuit against the Gaye estate over “Blurred Lines,” and insinuated he plans to respond with legal action of his own.

“There’s a way to do business and way not to do business, and we’re not happy with the way that he went about doing the business, let alone suing us over something where he clearly got his inspiration from,” Gaye said. “That’s caused my family a lot of duress…and I’m under kidney failure.”

“If you listen to the music, I’m sure anyone can see the similarities between what my father does and what Robin Thicke has been trying to do.”

Marvin III says Thicke’s lawsuit is a total slap in the face.

“What would he [Thicke] want to be protected from if he didn’t do anything?” Gaye said. “My counsel right now is in the process of taking care of business. I’m here to uphold my father’s legacy and the work that he’s put in; his blood, sweat and tears. He always has to get credit for that.”
