Robert Zimmerman, Jr.: My brother went to gun store

Robert Zimmerman, Jr. has confirmed to NBC News that his brother George Zimmerman visited a Florida gun manufacturer this Thursday.

Zimmerman was reportedly looking in to buying a shotgun from Kel-Tec in Cocoa, FL.  He inquired about buy the Kel-Tec KSG, reports TMZ.

“It’s not controversial, and George has a right to a private life,” Zimmerman Jr. said.

TMZ originally reported that Zimmerman’s lawyer during the Trayvon Martin case, Mark O’Mara, was present.

O’Mara told NBC News that he had “no idea” whether his client went gun shopping. “I was in trial for past three days,” he told NBC News via text message.

Zimmerman was charged with second degree murder and manslaughter after fatally shooting Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teen. Zimmerman pleaded not guilty, saying he was acting in self-defense.  He was acquitted of all charges in July.

The Brevard County gun manufacturer is the same company that made the 9-millimeter handgun Zimmerman used to shoot and kill Martin in early 2012.

NBC has been unable to confirm whether Zimmerman purchased anything during his trip to Kel-Tec.
