Tyler Perry’s popular sitcom For Better Or Worse makes its debut tonight on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
The series arrives on the heels of a very successful year at OWN for Perry, after shattering ratings records for the network with The Have and the Have Nots and Love Thy Neighbor.
For Better or Worse which previously aired on TBS, follows the lives of a lovesick married couple, Marcus and Angela Williams (played by Michael Jai White and Tasha Smith), as they navigate the perils of matrimony and parenthood.
“I think it’s a great thing that we’re over at the Oprah Winfrey Network and picked up for fifty-five more episodes,” Smith told theGrio. “ We get to be a part of Oprah Winfrey’s legacy.”
Smith also opened up about the show’s broad appeal and its ability to resonate with black and white audiences.
“His [Perry’s] stories are universal. It just so happens to be African American people but they have the same relationship issues that all races and cultures have.”
Last year Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown made her acting debut on an episode of For Better Or Worse.
After filming, Perry praised the budding actress’ on-camera work.
“That kid has a such a future. She’s such an actor. I’m so proud of her. I’m telling you, as far as she wants to go in the business, she can,” He said.
White and Smith are keeping it a secret as to whether or not Brown will reprise her role on the new season of For Better Or Worse.
“We shot so many episodes I can’t remember if she’s there or not. She shot more than 1 episode for sure. I guess you gotta tune in to find out.”
The season premiere of For Better Or Worse airs tonight at 9/8c on OWN.
