Congressional Black Caucus Chair Marcia L. Fudge (D-OH) has released a statement, announcing Loraine Miller as the interim NAACP President and Chief Executive Officer.

Fudge said in a press release Monday:

I am pleased that Lorraine Miller has been chosen to serve as interim president and CEO of the NAACP.  Ms. Miller has an unwavering commitment to the values and vision of the civil rights community, and has been a trusted and proven administrative leader in public service.

With decades of community service and leadership under her belt, Ms. Miller has served on boards of local civil rights organizations and has held numerous positions in the legislative and executive branches. One of her greatest accomplishments is having served as the 35th Clerk and the first African American official of the U.S. House of Representatives.

I am confident that in the interim, Ms. Miller will continue to build on the solid foundation set by Ben Jealous and past presidents of the NAACP until a permanent selection is made.

Miller will replace the NAACP’s current president Benjamin Jealous, who announce his plans to step down in September.

Her term is set to begin on November 1.
