Oprah Winfrey's yard sale raises over $600K for charity

Oprah Winfrey held a yard sale Saturday where many of her personal items were sold and ultimately fetched over $600,000, all of which will be given to charity.

The “Queen of Talk” was looking to simplify her possessions and gave up items from her homes in Hawaii, Indiana and California during a giant sale that reportedly took up three tents in Santa Barbara, Calif.

A few of the items that were up for grabs were crystal lamp bases, which were reportedly described as “simple” and expected to sell between $200-$400. Instead, they were sold for $2,500.

The Los Angeles Times reports that six 18th-century Louis XVI armchairs with hand-embroidered details sold for $60,000. Meanwhile, a teapot worth less than $100 sold  for $1,000.

Winfrey said all proceeds will go towards her Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.
