Vanilla Ice will not only be remembered in history as the first MC to have a hip-hop single top the Billboard charts, but also as the first rapper-turned-renovator.
The 45-year-old “Ice Ice Baby” singer talked with theGrio’s Chris Witherspoon about his new show on the DIY Network, Vanilla Ice Goes Amish.
The series follows the Texas native as he spends two months living in an Amish community in rural Ohio.
The rapper talked about being a trailblazer in hip-hop music.
“Listen. I had to break down a lot of barriers,” Vanilla Ice said. “It’s never been done… what I did. Eminem and all these other guys can use me as a guideline on what to do, and what not to do.”
Vanilla Ice also gave advice to the current crop of young controversial music artists including Chris Brown, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber.
