Eminem surpasses Drake's 1st week sales with 'MMLP2'

Guess who’s back?

Eminem has reached a familiar place on the pop charts, landing at number one with his latest opus (and first sequel): The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

The new album, which features a guest appearance from Kendrick Lamar, sold 792,000 copies in its first week, according to Billboard.

That makes it the second highest debut of the year, following Justin Timberlake’s blockbuster The 20/20 Experience, which moved 968,000 copies back in March.

The 41-year-old’s latest is his seventh release to top the album charts and has now surpassed Drake’s Nothing Was the Same (which sold 658,000 units) with the biggest first week in rap this year.

MMLP2 even sold more than Eminem’s last blockbuster, 2010’s Recovery, which started with 741,000 sales.
