Woman pleads guilty to killing man who called her ugly

Barbara Banks has pleaded guilty in the killing of a drunken man who called her ugly and hit her repeatedly, Richmond authorities reported.

The 21-year-old was initially charged with the second degree murder of Keon J. Robinson, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, however, she pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

Officials said Banks was walking when Robinson, who had a blood alcohol count that was three times the legal limit for drivers, called Banks ugly and hit her in the head. He then repeated the insult and struck her again.

Police say Banks then went into an apartment, took a knife and returned outside. Robinson struck her again, and she stabbed him in the chest, causing him to bleed out and die at the scene.

The Times-Dispatch reports that Banks will face up to 10 years in prison when she is sentenced in late February.
