Valisia LeKae, who stars as Diana Ross in Broadway’s Motown: The Musical, has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Last month the 34-year-old actress had laparoscopic surgery to remove a lump from her right ovary. Two weeks ago LeKae received pathology results from her surgery that revealed that she tested positive for ovarian cancer.
This has been an incredible year for LeKae, who received a Tony Award nomination for her role in Motown: The Musical, which debuted on Broadway in April. She was also honored with a Triumph Award from The National Action Network, and was named one of the 13 to watch in 2013 by Entertainment Weekly.
In an interview with theGrio’s Chris Witherspoon, LeKae opened up about her cancer diagnosis and discussed her plans to one day return to the stage.
“I want to give my all to the fight of my life right now… the role that I have been chosen to play; which is getting better and fighting cancer.”
