Following over a year with no permanent leader, Florida A&M University will be interviewing six candidates for president next week.
On Friday a university search committee voted for a final group of semifinalists from the 50 candidates they were considering for the position, according to NBC Miami.
The interviews will begin on Monday in Orlando.
NBC Miami reports the semifinalists are:
Dianne Suber, the president of Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, N.C.; John Maupin, president of the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta; Elmira Mangum, vice president of planning and budget for Cornell University; John Price, former president of the University of North Texas at Dallas; Joan Robinson, the former provost for Morgan State University in Baltimore; and Woodrow Whitlow, who until last fall was a top administrator with NASA.
The university has been without a steady president since the resignation of James Ammons in 2012, following the hazing death of a band member in 2011.
Provost under Ammons, Larry Robinson has been serving as interim president of the school.
Robinson worked to institute strict anti-hazing rules. Â FAMU’s marching band is no longer under suspension and the university’s probation from a regional accrediting organization has been lifted.
UPDATE:
Saint Augustine’s University president Dianne Suber has announced Sunday via the university Facebook page that she has declined her invitation to interview at FAMU. Suber has served for 14 years as the university’s president.
“As flattering as the invitation is, I am committed to serving the students and continuing the projects, development and expansion of Saint Augustine’s University.” said President Suber.
