'12 Years a Slave' wins best drama Golden Globe award

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has handed out its Golden Globe Awards.

The con-artist caper “American Hustle” looked every bit the Oscar front-runner, winning best picture for a comedy or musical and acting awards for Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence.

The award for best movie drama went to “12 Years a Slave.”

Matthew McConaughey won the Golden Globe for best actor in a drama for “Dallas Buyers Club” and Cate Blanchett won best actress in a drama for “Blue Jasmine.”

Leonardo DiCaprio won his second Globe for his best actor in a comedy for his work in “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

The Golden Globes honored “Breaking Bad” as television’s best drama and gave Bryan Cranston the top acting award.

Other big winners include the Fox detective comedy “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and the HBO movie on Liberace, “Behind the Candelabra.”

The 71st annual Golden Globes aired live Sunday night from the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
