Tika Sumpter on being a dark-skinned Hollywood leading lady

Actress Tika Sumper is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought after leading ladies.

Last year the The New York City native graced the big screen in Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas, and also starred in Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots, currently in it’s second season on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

Sumpter currently appears alongside funnyman Kevin Hart and Ice Cube in Ride Along, which is in theaters nationwide today.

Ride Along stars say they’d be on board for sequel

In an interview with theGrio, Sumpter talked about her incredible rise to fame and also opened up about being one of the few dark-skinned leading ladies in Hollywood.

“I don’t know who’s portraying that dark-skinned are supposed to have this dim look on life” Sumpter said. “I’ve never had that, and I’m not going to start having it. I just walk in wherever I’m going as a confident woman.”
