Sen. Tim Scott called a ‘dummy’ for the Tea Party by NAACP leader

Conservative senator Tim Scott (R-SC) was recently slammed by NAACP “Moral Mondays” leader Rev. William Barber.

Barber took Scott to task for backing Tea Party policies he believes are detrimental to people of color.

“A ventriloquist can always find a good dummy,” Barber reportedly said while addressing the South Carolina chapter of the NAACP this past Sunday.

He also said that “the extreme right wing down here (in South Carolina) finds a black guy to be senator and claims he’s the first black senator since Reconstruction and then goes to Washington. D.C., and articulates the agenda of the Tea Party.”

Barber has become famous for his role in protests (labeled “Moral Mondays”) against the Republican legislative regime currently in North Carolina, which is responsible for controversial voter ID laws.

Meanwhile, Scott is favored to win a full 6-year term in the U.S. Senate this fall.

Barber cautions: “We must not give up the so-called high moral ground to the right-wing extremists.”
